2010 Worship Books and More
The blog has been a bit quite in recent days, and will remain so as — if the snow doesn’t foul things up too much — I will on taking vacation next week. I do wonder, though, what books you might recommend for the new year.
Specifically, I’m leading a workshop in February entitled, “Worship and Welcomes the Spiritually Hungry.” And the organizers of the event and looking for books that include good thoughts on welcoming worship, how to make your space and service hospitable, how to be open to those unchurched, that sort of thing. So, what books should we be sure to have available at the bookstore?
And, while we’re at it, what books would you recommend in general? What was your fav book of 2009?

This post has received very little attention. People must be busy with the holidays. Hope everything went well with your various services Adam!
In terms of your conference, recent worship reads I’ve enjoyed (and you’ve probably already heard of or included) are A More Profound Alleluia, edited by Leanne Van Dyk and The Singing Thing by John Bell.
In terms of other books, my favorites (and I know I’m behind the times) were Pillars of the Earth and A Thousand Splendid Suns.
any one got a good Luke commentary to reccomend?
Thanks, you two. I’ve been otherwise occupied in recent days. I concur with Andrew’s worship suggestions, and add Marva Dawn’s Reaching Out Without Dumbing Down. Tribal Church by Carol Howard Merritt is good (though not specifically worshippy) to get up on gen x & y issues. And I haven’t read it yet, but several folks have recommended Simple Church to me.
I’m also looking for a good Luke commentary, Nancy. I did have one for Saunder’s class, but I’m not near my bookshelf. It was good, but I’d take another as well.
Have you looked at Fred Craddock’s commentary in the WJK Interpretation series? It’s now available in paperback.
