Chances are, if you’re reading this, you’re enjoying my new blog design from Press75.com. This design would not have been possible without the help of my buddy, Adam Walker Cleaveland at Pomomusings.com, who rescued me from the muck and mire of a badly orchestrated switch from WordPress.com to WordPress.org. Suffice it to say: I screwed things up pretty royally and Adam, in the manner of a superfast emailing web-designing Superman, saved my blog from oblivion. So, a huge web thanks goes out to Adam Walker Cleaveland. He’s a gem.
Blethering anew

A few things about the new A Wee Blether:
- Note the super-cool new button up top for “Sermons”
- Let me know what you think, but I’m leaning towards having only 5-6 of the most recent posts on the main page. Featured popular posts will appear on the right sidebar. Also, I’m planning on having fewer full post on the main page, and more “continue reading….” links halfway through articles. If this bothers you, I’d be interested to know.
- If you follow the blog in a RSS Reader, it’d be good to double-check the feed is correct. It should be: http://adamjcopeland.com (or really, http://adamjcopeland.com/feed)
While I’m blethering about myself, I’ll let folks know a new piece of mine went up recently at ThePresbyterianLeader.com. I wrote “Setting Priorities as a Leader” in the Leading Voices series of monthly essays from Presbyterian Leaders. If you aren’t familiar with PresbyterianLeader.com, check it out. If you’re lazy and just want my piece, click here and then check them out.

um, what is the difference between the org and com?
like the look!
Basically, wordpress.org is a do-it-yourself way of blogging. WordPress.com is an everyman’s approach (and everywoman’s, of course.) The .org way broadens the possibilities for plug-ins, ads, flash, etc. but for most people it’s not with the effort — it’s the platform a lot of small business sites use.
For a fuller explanation, see: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
I’m one who has to update my feed, as here is the address my reader was pointing to from your last post I got in the reader…
http://adamcopeland.wordpress.com/2010/07/25/a-wee-blether-updated-rss-change-please-read/
Generally I just click on the RSS button, and it lets me pick my reader, and there it is. But I don’t see the little symbol for RSS feeds on the .org site. Did you overlook this, or do I just need to figure out how to add things to my reader without that button? I’m pretty sure I can do it, but I want to mention it to you in the event that is an oversight. (Realizing that I might have simply not seen the RSS symbol.)
Regarding the idea of posting part of the new post on the main page, I’m wondering if that means those who follow you in a reader will have to click through in order to read the whole post. I think readers are the way to go, and if most are reading via readers, I think it might be best to continue to post the entire post (avoiding the extra window for a click through to your site). If the main idea is to drive up the number of people actually going to your website then the click-through will be better for you. I do read the full posts, other than some of the sermons. (No offense intended – just that time is sometimes limited.)
Will we need to get two feeds – one for the main page, and one for new posts to the sermon page? Or will the sermons also be posted on the index page?
Okay – after posting I saw the RSS feed button at the top right corner – though it is different than what I was accustomed to seeing. So, I’ve now got the feed – Thanks.
One thing I noticed though, is that there wasn’t a “Home” button on the page when I was looking for it (after posting the previous note). It’s there at the moment though. Are you working on the layout currently, and thus possibly making changes? Or am I just not “hitting on all the cylinders”? Okay, that’s a bad choice if it’s not the former. It’s in my feed, and I hope the sermons will appear as well. If not, please make a new post to let people know to also add that to their feeds. Thank you!
Hey DennisS. Let me try to tackle some of those questions.
First, the RSS feed on this site will continue to include the full posts, no cuts there. Second, on this site and many others, you can get their feeds even without the little RSS orangey symbol thing. Just copy the web address and paste it into your reader after clicking something like, “add a new site.” The reader will figure out if the site offers a feed — pretty much all blogs will, and even other sites too. Some readers (like mine, Google reader) will even offer to make up a pretend feed for sites that don’t offer one. Oh, and you just need one feed for the main site, no extra one for sermons.
Thanks for reading. Take care.
